The Shiva Statue is massive with a height of 65 feet. The Shiva Temple on Airport Road was built in 1995. The Statue of Lord Shiva is sitting in padmasana or in lotus position. Lord Shiva is seated in front of Mount Kailash, his celestial abode. The Kailash Parvata is also carved of stone. Lord Shiva is engrossed in deep meditation with chaste river Ganga flowing gracefully from the locks of Lord Shiva. According to mythology Ganga took refuge in the locks of Lord Shiva.
During night, the statue and the temple is lit up with gorgeous lighting. Lord Shiva in the backdrop of Kailash Temple looks splendid in the night with sparkling lights.
There is a pond in front of the idol of Lord Shiva and it is believed that if a person drops a coin in the pond while chanting the mantra “ Om Nama Shivaya” for seven times along with a lighted candle in hand,Lord Shiva fulfills all wishes.

Several ceremonies are held in the temple like Mahashivratri, Holi and other festivals. A great festival is held in and around the temple during Mahashivratri.
Behind the idol there is a scared cave. The journey through the cave is traditionally called Amarnath Yatra. The cave is open for public from 9am to 9pm. Large number of people come for Amarnath Yatra.
