Bangalore is a city with a rich heritage and affluent history. The unique and gorgeous temples in Bangalore speak of its rich past and prosperous present. Bull Temple at Basavanagudi is one of the famous temples in Bangalore. If you are planning a trip to Bangalore then you must visit this temple which speaks of architectural and spiritual grandeur of Bangalore.
The Bull Temple is located at Basavanagudi in Bangalore. The main deity of the temple is Nandi, the sacred mount to Lord Shiva. The Bull Temple houses a massive monolithic bull 4.5 meters in height and six meters in length. There is an iron plate on the head of the bull which is believed to prevent the growth of the enormous bull. This idol of the bull is believed to be older to the temple. People believe that from the feet of the bull the river Viswa Bharati originates.
The celestial bull carved in granite reflects Dravidian style. This monolithic deity has an ancient myth behind which makes it more famous. Kempe Gowda built this temple in around 16th century. The statue of Nandi is made from a single rock and was originally grey in color. But years of absorption of coconut oil applied by the devotees has turned it to black.
All the year the temple is the venue of different ceremonies. There are music concerts here on weekends. Devotees from faraway corners come to visit the splendid monolithic mount of Lord Shiva.
