Bangalore is well known as ‘Garden City’, and perhaps one of the most important reasons behind this name can be directed to the eighteenth century built Lal Bagh or the red garden. If you are visiting Bangalore for any reason, if you do not add Lal Bagh to your itinerary, you will be missing out on one of the most beautiful sights of images of swaying plants and sweet smelling flowers spread across vast landmass, painting it red, yellow, blue and purple and all the other colors of the spectrum. The Lal Bagh looks pretty in the morning and enticing in the evening, but no matter which look of this beautiful garden you catch, it will etch out a niche for itself in your mind for ever, to make the tortuous road of your life aromatic forever.
In order to compete with Mogul Gardens, the valiant ruler of South India Hyder Ali conceived the plan of and started the construction of the Lal Bagh in the year 1970 which was taken up and completed by his son, the courageous Tipu Sultan. But at the time of its construction, little did they know that it was going to become one of the most beautiful gardens of the whole of India. It has today become a botanical garden with numerous plants and flowers, dating back to several years, many of them over hundred years old. The one thousand species of flora consisting of many rare ones from Persia, Afghanistan and France are extremely popular with the tourists. The system of irrigation incorporated in the garden in the times of Hyder Ali is unbelievable as it is intricate and engages fantastic scientific methods. Perhaps the most important part of the attraction of the 240 acres of land is the three thousand million years old rock formation which is also regarded as one of the oldest in the world.
