Situated amid Malleshwaram, Vyalikaval and Sadashiva Nagar, the Sankey Tank is a major tourist attraction in the garden city of India. It is a manmade lake or tank spread over an area of 15 hectares. Col. Richard E. Sankey constructed the Sankey Tank in Bangalore to meet the demands of water supply. Col. Richard E. Sankey belonged to the Madras Sappers Regiment during the period of construction of the tank. The calm and quiet ambience of the Bangalore Sankey Tank beckons the heart of the peace lovers of the city and around. The tank was also popularly termed as Gandhadhakotikere due to the presence of the Government Sandalwood Depot situated near the lake.
The Sankey Tank in Bangalore features a swimming pool and a nursery that belongs to the Forest Department. The swimming pool lies to the south of the tank while the nursery lies to the northern park of the tank. The joint co-operation of Bangalore Water supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has recently restored the tank its lost glory. The Sankey Tank also features paved walkways, landscaped parks and a special tank for the purpose of immersion of idols of Ganesha during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. The tank boasts of the thrilling boating facilities available during the weekend times.

KSTDC is entrusted with the duty of maintenance of the Mayura Sankey Boat Club. The boating club remains open daily and features thrilling boating options like pedal boats, rowboats and motorboats for the pleasure of the visitors. The Sankey tank remains open daily except on Fridays. The visiting hours are from 6 am to 5 pm. A separate batch is also arranged for the ladies that starts from 3.30pm and continues till 4.30 pm.
