Spread over an area of some hundred acres, Cubbon Park was designed, commissioned and constructed by the then chief engineer of Mysore, Sir Richard Sankey and was dedicated to the Sir Mark Cubbon, the commissioner of Bangalore as a tribute to his long years of service to the city. The entire area of Cubbon Park has a formal landscape yet the natural element is spread over most of the park, the lush green interrupted with rock cut structures, plant groves, bamboos, flower beds, bowers and beautiful shady trees. The park is a haven for all the morning joggers, who get a breath of fresh air to refresh them completely.

Amongst the buildings and institutions within the Cubbon Park the Karnataka High Court called Attara Kacheri, Visveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall in Neo-classical architecture, Government Museum, Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bal Bhavan or amusement park for children, Press Club, Vikasa Soudha, Vidhana Soudha, Ottawa Chatter and Century Club are the most famous. Apart from these, there are several marble statues dotting the park such as those of Edward VII, nineteenth century ruler of Bangalore Chamarajendra Wodeyar and Queen Victoria.
