Puttanna Chetty Town Hall

Bangalore has always been known as a center of arts and cultural activities and in order to promote the art of the city various institutions and town halls are rendering their best services and Puttanna Chetty Town Hall is still a land mark in Bangalore.

Puttanna Chetty Town Hall architecture is truly fascinating as it was designed and built in the European Classical style. It was built to immortalize K. Puttanna Chetty. It is mow a great center of arts in Bangalore because of its huge auditorium. It is a favorite cultural center of all people in Bnagalore and hence, it is booked almost throughout the year. Puttanna Chetty Town Hall provides platform to various plays, dance performances, magic shows, public meetings and even informal gatherings. The hall can accommodate 900 audiences.

The Puttanna Chetty Town Hall was built in 1935 in the form of a stone structure in the mode of European Classical style. The foundation stone was laid in the memory of Sir K. P. Puttanna Chetty, the philanthropist and the President of Bangalore city municipality by the then Mysore Maharaja. The task of constructing and designing the building was taken up by Sir Mirza Ismail, Dewan of Mysore Province. Initially the Puttanna Chetty Town Hall did not have proper infrastructure to support the cultural growth of the city. The renovation plan was sketched in 1976 after the Chief Minister Sri Devaraj Urs ordered for it. But the plans were not executed as it should have been.

The Puttanna Chetty Town Hall is now enjoying a great reputation and the drastic change in Bangalore lifestyle or various new modeled buildings could not really put down the glory of the structure.
