Air India was founded as Tata Airlines in 1932 by J. R. D. Tata. On October 15, 1932 its founder, Mr. J. R. D. Tata flew a single engined De Havilland Puss Moth air mail of Imperial Airways from Drigh Road Aerodrome in Karachi to Juhu Airstrip in Bombay via Ahmedabad.

In 1954, Air India Cargo started functioning along with Douglas DC-3 Dakota aircraft. Eventually Air India became the first Asian airline to operate cargo flights. The cargo flights of Air India carry goods to many destinations. Air India is a member of IATA. It carries every types of cargo including dangerous goods and pets.

Bangalore is connected to the world with Air India flights from Chicago-O’Hare, Dubai, Frankfurt, Bahrain, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Male, Muscat, New York-JFK, Sharjah, Singapore, etc.

Recently Air India has planned to change its entire aircraft interior. They have changed the Business class, and Economy class seats on all of their 747 aircrafts. All the business class seats are in a shell now that allow the seats to get transformed into beds. These seats include a 18" PTV. Each of the new economy seats are of deep blue in color and are equipped with a 13” PTV each. Air India has also put up a projector screen on the walls of each area of the class, and 2 additional TVs in the main walkway. The uniforms of all the crew members have also been changed.
